What is a EICR Certificate?

Why the EICR report is important for your business

An EICR is an Electrical Installation Condition Report, it is sometimes known as a EICR certificate.

It is a document a qualified electrician will complete after there has been an inspection of an electrical installation. it is normally carried out in someones home and is a requirement for landlords.

To issue the EICR certificate it must be carried out by an experienced qualified electrician or approved contractor. To become qualified you will need to have taken a course that covers inspection and are registered with a scheme such as NICEIC.

An EICR certificate is also recommended in all domestic homes every 10 years to check the condition of the electrical installation. This is to make sure the electrics are in a good condition but there are many reasons why a homeowner or landlord may wish to request the EICR early including:

  • A new tenant or rental company.
  • Peace of mind, especially in older properties.
  • Features in the property such as an indoor swimming pool, spa or water feature.
  • Selling the property.
